Urgent Call to Save the Lake Partner Program
Dear MBC members,
We are writing to you today with urgency and heartfelt concern on behalf of the entire MBC Lakes Association team.
The future of Ontario’s Lake Partner Program (LPP) is at risk. As you may know, this crucial progra which has allowed volunteers like you to monitor water quality across our province for nearly three decades — is now in jeopardy. Without immediate action from the Province, the 2025 water sampling season may not happen, and the long-term efforts to protect our lakes could be severely compromised.
We are joining FOCA (Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations) in calling on all lake stewards, members, and waterfront residents to speak up this week, as this issue is being tabled with the Ontario government imminently.
Your voice matters.
Please take a few moments to send a letter to the Premier and the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, urging them to renew the Province’s support of this world-class program. Download the sample letter.
Here’s how you can help:
Download the template letter
Customize it with your own words, if you wish — especially how important clean, healthy lakes are to you and our community.
Email it to the Premier and Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks. Be sure to copy FOCA and your local MPP.
Do this as soon as possible — time is of the essence with the Ontario budget being tabled this week.
Please share this message with fellow members, neighbours, and anyone who cares about the future of our lakes.
The LPP provides critical data for scientists, policymakers, and communities to understand and protect Ontario’s freshwater. While the sampling is done by dedicated volunteers, the Province’s role in lab analysis and program coordination is essential — and cannot be replaced.
Let’s make sure this valuable program continues to support lake health and stewardship for generations to come.
With gratitude,
The MBC Lakes Association Team
